how would you describe what you do?

I write romantic fantasies for women. I offer my readers the chance to escape from reality for a few hours and to explore the world of ‘what if’.

what are you currently working on?

My current project is part two of my paranormal romance series, The Sentinels. It features an empathic heroine; a hero who draws his premonitions; and a serial killer. Of course, there’s the usual twists, murder, lust, and a happy ending — at least for the hero and heroine.

what has had the greatest influence on your work?

As far as inspiration goes, music has had the greatest influence on my work. There are certain songs that speak to me at times. They get my creativity flowing and set the mood for writing. Currently, I find a lot of inspiration in the music of Creed and Evanescence. However, I’ve also found equal strength in instrumental music, particularly Celtic.

what is the greatest misconception about you or your work?

I’m not sure how people perceive me, personally. I would imagine the greatest misconception regarding my work is that it’s all about the sex. Actually, the stories are about hope. They’re about two people overcoming an obstacle and their own baggage in order to have a deep, meaningful and lasting relationship. I think that’s something most human beings long to have.

what do you see as the main strengths and weaknesses of the medium you work in?

I work with words, so I consider language to be my medium. The greatest strength is the ability to paint a picture, inspire an emotion, and convey someone else’s perceptions through words. It can also be the great weakness, however. Sometimes it’s difficult to find the exact word or turn of phrase to portray the images and feelings I’m trying to get across.

how has technology impacted upon the work you do?

Advances in computer technology have tremendously impacted the entire writing community. Now, just about anyone with a PC and printer can write a book and send it out to a publisher. Also, the acceptance of digital publishing as a viable alternative has created a much different market for both the writer and consumer.

what’s the greatest piece of advice you would like to pass on?

If you believe in yourself, your talent and your story — don’t give up. The best way to improve your talents is by writing continually and reading.
