what is your name?
It’s Jared Matthew Kessler (with a smiley face on the end of it).
how would you describe what you do?
That’s a hard one. I guess the best way to describe what I do is by holding a mirror up to people’s faces and asking, “Is this you? If it is good. If not, here’s how I think you can change it.” And if that didn’t make any sense, I provide “simple unconventional insights for you or your business”.
what are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on seeing if I should expand into doing more speaking (or “giving talks” as I like to say) and whether “coaching” is something I should also get into – but I would call it a different thing because there are too many “coaches” out there.
what has had the greatest influence on your work?
The greatest influence on my work? Observing people that settle for MUCH less than who they are.
what is the greatest misconception about you or your work?
That is a great great question. The greatest misconception about me is that I am the previous jobs I’ve worked (and just because I don’t wear a fancy suit/tie, lack a Phd in psychology, and don’t have a book on the NY Times Best Sellers list doesn’t mean I don’t have something to say that is worth paying to see and just as life changing as anyone else that is double my age). 🙂
what do you see as the main strengths and weaknesses of the medium you work?
Hmmm… That is another good one. The main strengths in the medium of music is how it can TRULY heal people. The weakness the medium has is that it is WAY undervalued. In terms of writing, I think it’s the same thing (really).
how has technology impacted upon the work you do?
Technology has impacted my writing in a way that allows me to connect with thousands of people all over the world (without LITERALLY being there). I also think it’s decreased our attention span – so it’s a bit more challenging to create something TRULY unique that someone isn’t already doing AND get people to listen to what you have to say.
what’s the greatest piece of advice you would like to pass on?
You’ve got to be the person you are capable of becoming.
where can we find you online?
You can find me at www.jaredmatthewkessler.com
what are you reading at the moment?
I’m currently reading, “The Copywriter’s Handbook.”
what are you listening to at the moment?
A mix of songs that a friend sent me over as a present (it consists of about 30 songs – my favorite new artists that I discovered through this are, “Greg Laswell, James Morrison, Matt Nathanson, and The Script”). Thanks Alicia! 🙂
anything else we should know?
I’m really happy to still have hair on my head. 🙂 I’m also VERY grateful for all the people that read my blog, buy my products and spread the word about me as much as they have. This whole journey has been such an interesting process and I’ve really met some amazingly interesting unique and authentic people over the last few years that without their support, comments and encouragement… man I don’t know where I would be.
