what is your name?
Maurizio Russo alias Mau Russo an italian  creative designer-illustrator  living in Tokyo Japan.
how would you describe what you do?
I try to do graphics and illustrations in the same piece and also something interesting to watch. Also i’m studying toy design with my papertoy.

what are you currently working on?

After my 3 months here in Japan I have a commission from a new studio to design creative stuff as flyers and papertoys  for some restaurants in this area. Also I continue to get commissions from the Italian agency where I worked in this last year. Living in Tokyo isn’t so cheap so in the evening I work part time  in a Roppongi’s pub…this is great also to improve my English and as well try to speak few Japanese words 🙂

what has had the greatest influence on your work?
As well as Japanese graphics style but also too from American comics and some Italian painters as well ( Amedeo Modigliani the most)
what is the greatest misconception about you or your work?
Sometime people think that this is not a real work.
what do you see as the main strengths and weaknesses of the medium you work in?
The cool thing that sometimes guys  looking at you like a rock star… the weaknesses is the other part looking to you like an unfortunate 🙂

how has technology impacted upon the work you do?
I think that the most thing is what you have inside in you..technology can’t do nothing with out this.

Beside this I love technology and my Macbook and those change the most  type of my work everyday.

what’s the greatest piece of advice you would like to pass on?
The next one … honestly i don’t know yet! … maybe some cool toy design.

what are you reading at the moment?

“Tiziano Terzani”, an Italian journalist  that lived in the Asia area for many years … this help me a lot to understand the people around me!

what are you listening to at the moment?
As the same for me in the morning Rock music  and in the evening house/tecno ambient music.
anything else we should know?
That it’s not easy living with your passions but it’s worth it.
